Retirement software

Post by Scarfinger »

I currently am using Boldin which was formerly NewRetirement. I like it so far. Does anyone else use any planning software?

I have 5 to 8 years until retirement but I figured this was a good place to start a post on this subject.
I am just an average Joe. I have no clue to what the market will do.

I just started using Boldin. I tried to have Boldin access my TSP account information, was disappointed to learn it would only get the total account amount, it didn't divide between Roth and Traditional, to do that you need to manually enter the information. Too bad it doesn't do it for you. Means I'll have to update it like monthly or so.

I use Boldin and have them split apart in Boldin. I update about twice a year. I don’t use the auto-connect for any of me accounts.

I'm about 11 to 12 years out (of early retirement). I'm thinking of looking into software like this, but is it even as useful as using something like ChatGPT or Gemini? I'm using AI right now. Thanks!

That is a good question. The only knock on AI is that it currently tries to please you from what I understand. Also I like how Boldin shows all the info that you can review and the make changes to.

I have used AI to review my portfolio make up. I have not used it for RMD projections, Roth conversions and or spending guardrails. Boldin has implemented a beta AI agent that you can ask questions. AI to me spits out a bunch of line data that I have to pan through and I feel like I get lost. Where Boldin presents the data in a more user friendly format and to me is easier to review.

I wouldn’t consider using Boldin until around 5 years from retirement. My guess is AI should be sufficient until then.

Edit: also Boldin only cost around 120$ a year. Well worth it to me. Some Boldin users print out the plan and have it reviewed by financial planners and get confirmation that the plan is solid.

Thanks so much! Yes, I'm using it only for projections and ideas. The true limitations that I perceive is that AI only spits out what I ask. What I mean is that it doesn't help me think of everything...just what I ask. I would think that a program like Boldin would know what you need to know and also spit out that information to you. Note: there's always the person that smiles and says "you're not asking AI the right questions." Sure, but if you don't know what you don't know...I find that AI has it's limitations.

I'm not personally involved with this project and I don't benefit from it, but my programmer/marketer (Deena) recently put this one together:

MyFedPath.com

Honestly I haven't used it much so I can't give a good review.
